今年我 (This year I) have loved learning 中文 (Chinese), making 朋友 (friends), and discovering more about 中国 (Chinese) culture. The activities that 我的老师 (my teacher) taught us, showed us, and let us do this year is why the 课 (class) was so fun. So many different activities with different focuses really allowed us to learn and develop our language and social skills.

At first I was a little reluctant to join the Mandarin class. I had heard difficulties in learning the language but it was actually very easy if I put my mind into it. The small classroom and welcoming environment also eased my worries about the class. I not only learned about the language, I also learned about the culture. I learned about the tales and myths that predate ancient China, how it relates to modern Chinese society.

The Mandarin class was a great experience and a great way of learning the basics to speaking Mandarin. I wasn’t sure if this class would be extremely challenging or not, but as we slowly got into the work it became easier over time. My goal for joining this class was to be able to understand the basic words of what people usually say. Now whenever my grandma has a conversation in mandarin I am able to pick out words and get a rough understanding of what she is saying.

I am so glad and lucky to have been able to be a part of this class. I met people that I will probably be friends with for the rest of my high school years and that I will definitely never forget. I also learnt so much this year, but in this class alone, I cannot even express how much I have learned and grown. I have learned how to have basic conversations in Chinese, I have learned how to read in Chinese, and I have learned about many different Chinese festivities and holidays such as 中秋节和春节 (Mid-Autumn Festival and Spring Festival)。

I believe Chinese has made an impact on my life, it was always the class that I was excited to go to because the class itself was fun while also being interesting to learn. It also has already started to affect my life outside of school whether it’s just thinking about things in Chinese or being able to have some conversations with other people who know Chinese. Overall it was an amazing class and I'm so thankful to you Ms. Su for always making the class fun and for always encouraging me even when I would mess up.

Personally, I felt like I did not have to do much extra work to better understand the content because Su 老师 (teacher) explained everything 特别好 (specially good). 我最喜欢 (I mostly like) doing the dialogues. It was fun practicing it and gave us an extra challenge of having to memorize everything. It also allowed us to get to know 我们的同学 (our classmates) better. I liked how Su 老师 (teacher) had the students involved in the lessons through pair practices or saying out loud the correct sentence structure/pronunciation.

I am very happy I took Chinese instead of any of the other languages. I have learned a lot and made new friends. I always had good laughs in class whether we were allowed to talk, or not. All in all this year has been great and I hope next year is either better or jut like this last year. If anyone asks me what language to take I will always say Chinese 100%.
